First Timers Tours

The Asilomar Committee welcomes all of our first timers to attend our First Timer Tours and Tips Session at Asilomar on Friday afternoon, October 26, 2018.

This session is designed for those who are attending the Asilomar Weekend for the very first time or for those who haven't attended for a while. You'll get the inside scoop on getting around, how to get to the Asilomar State Beach is, where to buy dance shoes or a beer, class locations and more! its also a great way to meet fellow attendees!

Plan on spending about 35 or so minutes with Bruce Herbold or me, as we highlight the key locations we'll use during RSCDS San Francisco Branch's Asilomar Weekend this year. Depending on numbers, we'll divide into two groups, and quickly walk through the Asilomar grounds in this short Introductory Tour for first-time attendees. We’ll also address questions you may have about logistics, and provide some inside tips about the Weekend.

To familiarize yourself with the Asilomar Conference Grounds, here's our annotated map with the main facilities we'll be using marked with yellow stars. First timers also received the map by email.

As a reminder, before you check-in with us, temporarily park your car in either of the parking lots near Hearst Social Hall or Pirates Den (marked with red stars on the map). Come up to Hearthside, which is located inside Merrill Hal to register and pick up your room card-key.

Check-in formally starts at 3pm, but if you arrive a bit early, no problem. Come on in! Guest room key-cards will be activated at 4pm. If you do arrive early and want to eat, head over to Asilomar's Phoebe's Cafe located in the Hearst Social Hall for a light snack, lunch or a drink. Sit inside, or relax outside on the nearby newly renovated deck and take in a view of the meadow.

Some of our regular attendees like to go over for a bite to eat at the nearby low-key seafood Fishwife restaurant. Walk out of Asilomar to the junction of Asilomar Avenue & Sunset Drive. The Fishwife is located at 1996 1/2 Sunset Drive and is marked on the map with a purple star. The menu can be found at www.fishwife.com. Or find one of the Boardwalk paths (marked with turquoise stars on the map) head toward the Beach and enjoy the ocean, or shop in the Asilomar Gift Store, located in the Hearst Social Hall.

After you register, please linger to greet both old and new friends, check out our raffle and auction prizes and purchase some tickets.

If you'd like to join our first timer tour, do plan on meeting Bruce and me at 4pm promptly in front of the stage in Merrill Hall, and we'll get going!
