Waiting for the Next Asilomar Weekend?
Every year in January & February we get asked about what's on in the San Francisco Bay Area for Scottish Country dancing while we're waiting to hear details about the next Asilomar Weekend. More about the 2018 Weekend sooon! The Asilomar Committee is presently reviewing all the feedback from last November's Weekend, and then we'll be able to share details for the October 26-28th 2018 Weekend!
In the meanwhile, we are delighted to share news of the inaugural San Francisco Branch Winter Ball for those who might be traveling to the Bay Area in early February, those who want a great excuse to do so, and of course, for all who are already here!
The Winter Ball will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018, 6:30pm – 11:30pm at the Orchard Pavilion, Sunnyvale, CA. Sunnyvale is right in the middle of Silicon Valley and the Orchard Pavilion is right in the middle of what used to be orchards.
We’ll be dancing to music by the fabulous local dance band Fiddlesticks & Ivory, featuring the renowned fiddler John Taylor. And yes, we love it when Fiddlesticks & Ivory headline for us at the Asilomar Weekend. For those who don't know however, the Winter Ball will be John Taylor's last performance for Scottish Country Dancers before he retires in 2018. The Ball promises to be a wonderful event with the added bonus of being there, dancing to John's awesome fiddle playing one last time!
Dancer places at the Winter Ball are being limited to ensure everyone has plenty of room to enjoy the dancing. For now, registrations are still being accepted. The Registration form can be downloaded direct from http://www.rscds-sf.org
For those wanting to stay over in Silicon Valley on Saturday night there are a couple of options:
1. Contact Hospitality Chair, Janet Kitajima to be matched up with a local dancer who will provide accommodations for you. Janet's contact details are also on the Registration Form. 2. Alternatively, reserve a room at the Maple Tree Inn, 711 East El Camino Real, Sunnyvale, just across from the Sunnyvale Community Center and the Orchard Pavilion. A block of rooms is available that can be reserved at a special RSCDS Winter Ball room rate of $129. All rooms have the usual hotel amenities and many have tubs. A full hot buffet breakfast is served on Sundays until 10am. These rooms will be held until January 20, 2018, when rooms not booked will be released to the general public.
